A home for Ngāti Te Whiti. A marae for our city.

Ngāti Te Whiti, in collaboration with many across our city, are working passionately to create a valued and much needed community focused facility – Ngāmotu Marae.

Taranaki Foundation is proud to partner with Ngāti Te Whiti to support this transformational project. We will manage the donation platform and celebrate the milestones for this important community project.

Positioned with prominence on our foreshore (built on hapū-owned land adjacent to Ngāmotu Beach), Ngāmotu Marae will bring people together, to share knowledge and understanding, while strengthening traditions and connection.

Ngāmotu Marae is for the city – anyone, and everyone who calls New Plymouth home will benefit from the marae. It will capture the significance to the area, enhance cultural and tourism opportunities and create a supportive environment for the reinvigoration and diversification of our local economy. The marae will welcome visitors with pride, embrace those who are returning home to our city and support, nurture, and care for those who live, work and play in Ngāmotu, New Plymouth.

This city marae will consist of a wharenui (which can sleep 80), a wharekai (which can cater to a meal sitting of 100), atea, administration area and supporting amenities, and will provide much needed facilities for meetings and conferences, events, workshops and education and a safe haven in times of need for our wider community.

Ngāti Te Whiti are excited to take the next steps forward for this signature project. With generosity and support from across our community, we can build Ngāmotu Marae together.
