The John Wood Memorial Scholarship Fund
In 2024, The John Wood Memorial Scholarship Fund was established with Taranaki Foundation.
John Wood was a student of New Plymouth Boys’ High in the 1950s and a boarder in Pridham House. When he graduated, he was the only boy to have his name on five of the school’s honour boards in one year – Dux, Head Boy, Taranaki Scholarship, 1st XV Captain and 1st XI Captain.

John Wood passed away in 2021, and his family have set up this memorial fund with the specific purpose of awarding an annual scholarship to a graduating student of New Plymouth Boys’ High who has who has demonstrated a high level of engagement in both school life and academic pursuits.
