In 2016, Debbie McCallum, a former Foundation Trustee and dedicated Taranaki Golf representative for 25 years, established the Debbie McCallum Fund to give back to the sport that has given her so much.

Debbie’s love for golf began in her hometown of Hāwera. She started playing at 14 and by the time she was 25 she was representing Taranaki.

“Golf has given me years of pleasure and many valuable experiences,” Debbie says. “I’ve met so many wonderful people through it, and now it’s time to give back and help nurture future talent in the sport.”

A highlight to her golfing experiences was achieving a long-held dream in 2018 by representing New Zealand in the Women’s Senior Trans-Tasman Cup in Australia, a competition she likens to the Ryder Cup. “It was a dream come true really,” she recalls. “A real buzz.”

Debbie chose to make regular contributions to her Fund, allowing it to grow to the $50,000 needed to make annual distributions. “Setting up the fund was easy, and the time went remarkably quickly,” she says. “I encourage others to consider it.”

Debbie is excited to see her fund in action and finds it rewarding to know it will continue to support golf for years to come.
