Boosting Taranaki Youth
15 July 2025What began as a bold idea from Steelformers back in 2019 has transformed into a movement shaping the future for rangatahi in our region.
Taranaki Youth Boost was established through a partnership between Taranaki Steelformers, NP Partners, and Taranaki Foundation. Our clear goal: to support and nurture the talents of ambitious young people across our region. At its heart, Youth Boost holds a simple belief that when we back our tamariki and rangatahi, the whole community benefits. Whether it’s a young athlete chasing national selection, an artist preparing for their first exhibition, or a future scientist with a big idea, Youth Boost helps turn potential into progress.
Since its launch, nearly $50,000 has been distributed over five years. Thanks to growing support, the programme now delivers 50 Youth Boosts annually. For Taranaki Foundation, Youth Boost is now our largest grant programme by volume.
Each month, four school-age applicants from Taranaki are chosen to receive a $500 donation towards their pursuits.
While this is a significant milestone, we’re aiming even higher. Our vision over time is to double that, reaching 100 Boosts per year. Imagine what 100 Boosts annually could unlock for the next generation of Taranaki talent.
Real Stories, Real Impact
The Boosts might be modest in size, but they carry big outcomes Meet some of the remarkable recipients who’ve recently benefited from the programme:
- Mia: A dedicated kayaker with the Waitara Kayak Club, Mia represented Aotearoa (New Zealand) on the world stage at the Junior World Canoe Sprint Championships.
- Jerome: Financial support helped Jerome pursue his dream of being selected for the NZ Junior All Blacks U17 team.
- Amy: A para-athlete excelling in running, Amy is now competing both nationally and and internationally, setting an example for others to follow.
The Power of Local Support
None of this progress would be possible without the generosity of our region. We thank everyone who has stepped up to invest in our young people.
Our Programme Partners include:
