Noel Yarrow Puke Ariki Fund

In September 2024, management of the Noel Yarrow Puke Ariki Trust funds was transferred to Taranaki Foundation. securing a proud legacy for future generations.

Established in 2011, the Trust was created to honour the memory of Noel Yarrow (1924–2008) and his lifelong commitment to the Taranaki community. Through a close partnership with New Plymouth District Council, the Fund continues to support projects that enrich Taranaki’s cultural and historical landscape.

Born in Manaia on 9 May 1924, Noel Henry Yarrow dedicated his life to family, business, and community. Together with his wife Melva Stevenson, he nurtured and transformed the family bakery into what became the largest family-owned bakery in New Zealand.

Continuing the Vision

Puke Ariki, New Plymouth’s District’s flagship museum library, and heritage centre, plays a vital role in inspiring creativity and celebrating Taranaki’s rich heritage. Since opening in 2003, Puke Ariki has welcomed thousands of visitors each year, connecting people to ideas, cultures, and history.

Now under the stewardship of Taranaki Foundation, the Noel Yarrow Puke Ariki Fund will uphold Noel’s vision and values. The Fund will provide ongoing support for:

  • Exhibitions
  • Educational programmes
  • Research initiatives
  • Community engagement activities

This enduring investment strengthens Puke Ariki’s role as a hub for knowledge, creativity, innovation, and connection.
