Daphne Cancer Care Fund

The Daphne Cancer Care Fund was established in 2024 by Karen Morine to support the work of the Daphne Cancer Care Trust (DCCT). The core purpose of the Fund is to help provide funding, support and assistance for low-income cancer patients undergoing treatment.

The DCCT story

Inspired by her own experience with cancer—first with her husband’s brain tumor and then her own battle with ovarian cancer—Karen Morine became acutely aware of the extra financial burdens cancer patients face during treatment. While Karen was able to assist a few individuals facing hardship, she soon recognised the need to extend help to many more. This realisation motivated her to establish the Daphne Cancer Care Trust (DCCT) under the Taranaki Foundation.

The trust aims to alleviate the financial strain on patients by offering timely support. A fund has been established in conjunction with the Taranaki Foundation, allowing DCCT donors to claim tax rebates on their contributions. Fundraising events and generous donations are vital for building a strong support base for the fund.

Financial assistance will be distributed promptly through an online application process, assessed by a grants committee. The granted funds, typically under $1,000, will cover essential needs like groceries, petrol, wigs, genetic testing, and transport. No one chooses to receive a cancer diagnosis, and for many, the journey through cancer is overwhelming. With your help the DCCT hopes to ease the financial impact of the disease, bringing care, kindness, and relief to those in need during such challenging times.

No one chooses to receive a cancer diagnosis. The goal of the Daphne Cancer Care Trust is to reduce the financial impact of this dreaded disease and bring a beautiful fragrance of care and kindness to those that need support at a very challenging time.

Anyone touched or impacted by cancer may donate and contribute to the Fund to further the cause and impact of the Trust. We welcome all donations big or small.
