The Fergusson Fund Media Scholarship

The Fergusson Fund has been set up in memory of Glen Fergusson who passed away in November 2022 at the age of 85. A lifelong resident of Taranaki, Glen’s legacy lives on through this fund, established to encourage and support deserving students in Taranaki undertaking or about to commence study in journalism, photography or communications.
Funding Criteria
- Taranaki Foundation administers The Fergusson Fund Media Scholarship, established in 2024.
- Two awards are made annually, determined by the selection panel.
- Total value: $15,000 per year, awarded as: One primary award of $10,000, linked to the work placement, and one additional award of $5,000, recognising another outstanding applicant.
- To support Taranaki students pursuing full-time studies in journalism, photography, communications, or related media fields.
- Please note scholarship amounts are indictive only and may vary from the amount stated.
Application Process
- Application and supporting documents can be submitted between 1 September and 31 October.
- The application period may be extended at Taranaki Foundation’s discretion.
- All applicants will be notified of outcomes by the end of November.
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal interview with representatives from Taranaki Foundation and Taranaki Daily News.
- Grant recipients will be required to report on the use of funds using the Taranaki Foundation’s Accountability Report.
