Taranaki Foundation runs one contestable grant round each year, offering modest grants to support local charities, voluntary organisations and community groups.
These grants are made possible by our generous donors who have established named funds to support the causes they care about. We carefully match eligible applications to each fund’s focus and criteria.
Applications open on 1 September and close on 30 September 2026.

Taranaki Foundation is proud to partner with The Tindall Foundation (TTF) as its Local Donation Manager for Taranaki. We distribute approximately $46,000 each year through our annual funding round to supporting community-led initiatives across Taranaki.
Who can apply?
Funding supports projects that align with The Tindall Foundation vision of Intergenerational Wellbeing for Aotearoa, with a focus on: parents, carers and young children, equitable access to life’s essential needs, identity and social cohesion, rangatahi empowerment and pathways, and resourced communities.

2026 Grants Round – Now Closed
The Coach McKean Small Grants Fund, managed by Taranaki Foundation, provides support to emerging athletes in Taranaki.
Grants of up to $250 are available to assist with sports-related expenses such as registration fees. equipment and travel.
Who can apply?
Taranaki High School athletes who need financial assistance for sports-related expenses.
Grants cannot be used for expenses that have already been paid.

In partnership with Methanex NZ, this Fund supports activities and initiatives that encourage Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning opportunities in the Taranaki region.
Funding is available to enhance STEM learning through new equipment, digital technologies, engineering kits, or projects that give hands-on STEM experiences.
Applications have now closed for 2026.

The Taranaki Scholarships Portal

We have one funding round per year, with applications opening on September 1st and closing on September 30th annually. Applicants will be notified of the outcome in November. Find out more about applying for funding here.
Taranaki Foundation acts as The Tindall Foundation’s (TTF) Local Donation Manager for Taranaki, distributing donations from $500 to $10,000 to projects and initiatives that support The Tindall Foundation funding priorities.
TTF’s application process runs in parallel with Taranaki Foundations funding round. Apply through the Taranaki Foundation funding portal, and your application will automatically be considered for both funding streams.

All applications are submitted through our online Taranaki Foundation Funding Portal.
Register / Login:
If this is the first time your first time applying through the Foundation Funding Portal you will need to register with a username (your email address) and a password. Every time you log in you will use this username and password.
How to apply:
When applying, we will need to know a few details about your organisation and what you are requesting funding for. Details we will ask for include:
– Charities Services or Incorporated Society Number (if applicable),
– Verified bank account details (e.g. bank deposit slip or screenshot of your account details),
– Programme/project details
– The need for your programme/project
– Expected outcomes of programme/project
Share your organisation’s kaupapa and the difference you make in our community, in your own words. Don’t worry about buzzwords or fancy language; what matters is the local impact your project can have with a modest grant.
Email: Use an address you check regularly (including your junk folder) — this is how we’ll update you about your application.
Organisation name: Make sure it matches your legal name (Charities Services) and your bank deposit slip.
Funding request: Be clear about what you are asking for. For example, if you’re requesting funding for salaries to run a project, state that clearly.
Log in to the Grants Portal and select “My Applications”
We do not need you to provide every document, just enough information to show how the funding was spent.
